I have spent the last year or so crafting the sound of Atlas, my latest project and so now with the music complete, a strong inter-band dynamic, the band play entirely original, improvised repertoire. I feel so lucky to have such brilliant musicians in the band. Nick, Matt and Chris all individually bring a distinctive voice to this project whilst also complementing each other within a group setting. Atlas aim to create a progressive and authentic sound – one that blends together elements of acoustic jazz with electronics, textural soundscapes, free improvisation, driving grooves which underpin strong melodies and dense harmonies – with the intention of creating a unique band sound with a clear identity.
The compositions are inspired by so many different musical influences which range from a bunch of jazz musicians including Vince Mendoza, Pat Metheny, John Taylor, Aaron Parks, and Wayne Shorter, but also other styles too, such as Classical (Messaien, Tippet), Electronica (Royksopp), and Folk play a huge part in the composition of Atlas’ music.
We are due to record later this year, and are looking forward to inviting and collaborating with invited guests on the album. Come along to one of our performances.
